Daylight saving started today. This has reminded me of a wee anecdote of some years back - mid-eighties I would think.
I had invited (the Scottish entertainer) Andy Stewart and his wife Sheila round for lunch one Sunday. I had done an out-of-town gig the night before and got back and to bed about 4 a.m. I planned to get up and get ready about 9.30 a.m. For Andy and Sheila’s arrival time of 11 a.m. For pre-lunch drinks. I had just stepped out of the shower and popped on my old shorts and T-shirt before getting spruced up a bit before eleven. About ten past ten the doorbell into my courtyard rang and I dashed out thinking “Who is this at this time? I’ll need to “get rid of them” before Andy and Sheila arrived for a quiet lunch, a chat and a laugh as I’d promised them, as they’d been all over Australia doing gigs and were tired of “people”. So ... “Scruffy” Raymond opened the door and Andy said “Look who’s forgotten to put their clock back then!” And he was right - with the late hour getting home and being a bit knackered I’d forgotten all about changing the clocks and there they were in their Sunday best! I never forgot again to change the clocks. In Queensland we don’t have daylight saving and don’t have to switch around - a bit awkward then you are in touch with business people in other states!

When I was young I was, and still am, a huge fan of Kenneth McKellar and have about 7 of Ken’s records in my previous collection of vinyl, which has over 2,000 LPs in it. I always wanted to be on stage with him from the days of “A Wish for Jamie” at the Glasgow Alhambra Theatre, which was directed by the brilliant Freddie Carpenter who, incidentally, became a great mate.
