All of my friends who read my last blog re my various “adventures” over the New Year and Birthday party period may recall that, when talking about lunch with my Senator friend and his wife from North Queensland, I then wrote about going on to another party for dinner? I finished that bit quite quickly, along the lines of “enough about THAT!!” Well, the party was at my former theatrical management colleague’s home when, what you will read really did happen and this wee story was in the gossip column of the Gold Coast Bulletin on 10 January.

I didn’t want to alarm anybody by writing about it, for I only had very minor oil burns to my arms and Kelvin, thankfully, had on a T-shirt and long pants. However, I can tell you he was an extremely lucky man, for his clothes were covered from head to toes with large blotches of scalding hot oil, and if it had been a warmer day and his short was off, there is no doubt that he would have been a dead-set hospital case!! It was horrible! Anyway, we are all fine and the girls were either in the pool or chatting in the kitchen - yes, the girls do that here too - and they were totally unscathed, although they screamed quite a bit when they heard the explosion and saw what had happened. They were calmed down with copious glasses of “champers” and Kel and I had some VERY LARGE glasses of the amber stuff!! From my point of view, if I am as lucky as that throughout 2011 then I’m going to have a fantastic year! Now - read on, MacDuff!! By the way, Kelvin looks NOTHING like the picture - that was from the files of the Bulletin! Will “talk” soon.
