When asked about a New Year’s Resolution, Billy replied that it would be something “That can be easily broken without costing money”. A true Scot!
Another financial disaster threatened to hit Billy this year, when a decision was made outwith his control to cease presenting Harry M Miller’s “Sunday Night at the Opera House” because of lack of public support two months before Billy’s “Scotland the Brave” show was scheduled to perform there with 4 Sunday concerts. Billy said “Now it looks as if I’ll have to pay off the cast, and I haven’t got that sort of money.”
However, as things turned out Billy didn’t have to pay the Opera House cast, as Actors’ Equity said he had an “iron-clad” contract for the four Sundays. They made Miller pay the contract out and the cast got their money, in full.
Billy says: Mind you, there were the usual show-biz “threats” from Miller ... “You’ll never work for this office again.” Who would want to!?!
Billy had the last laugh, for Harry M Miller was jailed for fraud for a ticketing scam! As Billy says, “What comes around, goes around.”
Later that year, Billy was employed by Newcastle’s NBN3 to produce 13 one-hour musical shows for Australian syndication.
